My dad and the messenger bag were inseparable in life. It was very important for him to keep his documents in order. He worked as a master loader of commercial timber, and it was very important to keep strict records. He was also the only expert in the whole neighborhood in arithmetic and stenography. Dad valued order in everything, but he wasn’t a perfectionist.
He loved fishing and quiet hunting. He loved the forest in the fall. Even in his old age, he marveled at the creations of the Almighty God. This bag was his work bag. But even when dad retired, it still served him faithfully. It contained tools and materials for repairing fishing gear.
When he became very sick and was unable to knit or to fix the nets, the bag always hung in a prominent place, because he cherished every minute of his past life. And he taught us to value time and to be careful with everything. Thanks to him and my mother, we, their children, are able to see the beauty of nature and have learned to do labor in joy.
This bag – a dear memory of my dad – should not be dusty and pushed to the corner of my closet. It will still serve and give joy.
I got it already without a handle. I went to a shoe shop and they made me a handle. I love the color red, in all its forms, so I wanted a red handle.
Do you know how I drew this? I copied the drawing from the book on paper, cut out all these flower petals, circled with a white marker, and then colored.
This is my fall bag. I walk with it with pleasure.
